ALLAN DUFFIN is a freelance writer and television/multimedia producer. His books include Takedown: How an Undercover Cop Dismantled the Biggest Drug-Smuggling Ring in Maine (co-author, 2015); Catch the Sky: The Adventures & Misadventures of a Police Helicopter Pilot (co-author, 2012); History in Blue: 160 Years of Women Police, Sheriffs, Detectives, and State Troopers (Simon & Schuster/Kaplan, 2010); and The “12 O’Clock High” Logbook: The Unofficial History of the Novel, Movie, and TV Series (co-author, BearManor Media, 2005).

Allan has produced, written, co-produced and developed more than 20 television projects for History, Discovery, and other networks. He was on the writing staff for Mysteries of the Unexplained, a paranormal TV series; Deep Undercover, a syndicated true-crime TV series; wrote and executive-produced a reality travel pilot, The Perfect Day; and co-executive produced and wrote Air Force Elite, a docudrama pilot about high-risk military missions. He produced films for the National Women’s Conference hosted by the California Governor’s office and wrote/produced on the TV series Triggers: Weapons That Changed the World for the American Heroes Channel.

He has over 130 magazine, newspaper and Internet articles to his credit in publications such as Air&Space/Smithsonian, DramaBiz, Restaurant, Flight Journal, Tow Times, Leatherneck, AirForces Monthly, American Veteran, Towing & Recovery Footnotes, and Military Heritage.

Allan’s company Duffin Creative creates TV and multimedia projects, provides graphic and web design services, and edits, designs and publishes traditional books and ebooks.

A military veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star medal for outstanding leadership in a combat zone, Allan served 11 years in the U.S. Air Force—five on active duty and six in the reserves—in the areas of research & development, protocol, special operations, and aircraft maintenance. He commanded three squadrons during his time in uniform.

Allan has experience in project management, software engineering, and conference and special event planning. He previously worked as a museum staff member, an assistant film archivist, and as an editorial assistant on the national historical magazine The New England Quarterly.

As an adjunct college instructor, Allan taught courses in American history at Los Angeles Valley College and Pasadena City College.

Allan holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering & history from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.A. in history from Northeastern University. He lives in the Washington, D.C., area.
